Jane Fonda

Jane Fonda in Klute - 1971

One year after appearing in the 1968 science fiction film Barbarella, Jane Fonda cut off her signature honey colored long locks of hair. She then made her first academy award nominated performance in the 1969 film ‘They Shoot Horses Don’t They?’ in immediate succession.

This new dawn of her career coincided with a tumultuous time of world events that changed her outlook and commitment to how she saw herself and her art. No longer would her idea of perfection rely on the classically feminine physical traits she obsessed over like large hair to hide under. Her discovery of her own personal style helped develop an unmistakably personal identity that changed flawlessly with each decade like a chameleon.

From the shag hairstyle she mastered in early 1970s films to the 9 to 5 era of her notorious workout videos of the 1980’s she adapted. Even today her effortless minimalist style is classic and flawless with tailored basics in muted tones with short sleek and chic low maintenance natural hair.

Her all encompassing persona of Klute with the chic urban bohemian look of 1971 is hauntingly still relevant. With rich earthy hues and well fitted organic textiles the metamorphosis of her Barbarella days was complete as a unrecognizable butterfly with more freedom and happiness in new form.
